Stretch marks are a form of natural scarring on the skin.

As the skin stretches too much and too quickly, elastic fibers begin to tear - leaving thin bands, or lines that look like they were embedded in the skin.

Both men and women can get stretch marks on several areas, including the thighs, breasts, upper arms, abdominal area, hips and buttocks. And, while they are mostly associated with pregnancy and weight gain, they can also develop throughout a period of rapid muscle growth.
